On June 14, 2017, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Xavier Bettel of Luxembourg at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China-Luxembourg friendly exchanges enjoy a long-standing history. The two countries have upheld sincere friendship, and adhered to mutual benefit and win-win results since both countries established diplomatic relations 45 years ago. Bilateral relations have maintained a healthy and stable development. The Chinese side views Luxembourg as an important cooperation partner in the EU, and is willing to make joint efforts with Luxembourg to foster a long term, stable and vigorous partnership, so as to constantly push forward China-Luxembourg relations to new highs.

Xi Jinping stressed that both sides should carry forward the fine traditions, adhere to equal treatment and mutual respect, understand and support each other on the issues concerning respective core interests and major concerns, and hold the right direction of the development of bilateral relations. The two countries need to improve the quality of bilateral practical cooperation, expand advantages, tap potentials, make cooperation in traditional areas such as finance greater and stronger, and expedite the cultivation of new growth points for cooperation in air transportation, high and new technology, green economy and others, in a bid to realize mutual benefit and win-win results at a higher level. China and Luxembourg should deepen bilateral cooperation in finance and production capacity under the framework of the "Belt and Road" construction. China supports the construction of an "Air Silk Road" between China's Zhengzhou and Luxembourg. Bilateral people-to-people and cultural exchanges in areas such as culture, education and sports should be strengthened, and personnel exchanges should be facilitated. China expects Luxembourg to continuously play an active role in China-Europe relations and propel the EU to provide more favorable conditions for in-depth development of the China-EU cooperation.

Xavier Bettel said that bilateral cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, finance, transportation and culture has achieved fruitful outcomes since Luxembourg and China established diplomatic relations 45 years ago. His visit to China this time is to promote the in-depth development of bilateral cooperative relations. Luxembourg and China share strong economic complementarities. Luxembourg stands ready to, on the basis of mutual respect and trust, learn from each other, further expand bilateral exchanges and cooperation in finance, investment, science, technology, tourism, and people-to-people and cultural engagement, as well as intensify cooperation under the “Belt and Road” framework. Luxembourg advocates deepening constructive dialogue, communication and cooperation between Europe and China, and stands ready to play an active role to this end.

Yang Jiechi and others attended the meeting.
