On February 15, 2019 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee Yang Jiechi met with Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Jean Asselborn of Luxembourg on the sidelines of the 55th Munich Security Conference in Munich.

Yang Jiechi expressed that China-Luxembourg relations have entered a new stage where bilateral high-level exchanges are close and political mutual trust and economic and trade relations have been continuously enhanced. The Chinese side is willing to continue to deepen cooperation and seek common development with the Luxembourg side. Both sides should intensify high-level exchanges, increase political mutual trust and provide reliable political guarantee for sustained, sound and rapid development of bilateral relations. Both sides should well implement the consensus of the leaders of the two countries, and continuously deepen cooperation in traditional fields such as finance and air cargo, as well as in high-tech fields, so that new highlights in practical cooperation could be created. The Chinese side appreciates the Luxembourg side's active participation in the Belt and Road Initiative, and stands ready to work with the Luxembourg side to improve connectivity. Both sides should hold high the banner of multilateralism and closely communicate and collaborate with each other on international affairs.

Yang Jiechi pointed out that strengthening China-European Union (EU) comprehensive strategic partnership is of great importance to promoting economic globalization to develop toward a more open, inclusive, universally beneficial, balanced and win-win direction. The Chinese side firmly supports the European integration process and is ready to improve economic, trade and investment cooperation with the EU side and enhance the integration between the Belt and Road Initiative and the EU's development strategies.

Jean Asselborn noted that it is delightful that both sides have maintained close and friendly exchanges. Luxembourg and China have achieved fruitful results in exchanges and cooperation in various fields such as finance, investment and people-to-people and cultural engagement in recent years. The Luxembourg side is ready to deepen practical cooperation with the Chinese side in various fields on the basis of mutual respect and trust to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results at a higher level. The Luxembourg side attaches importance to communication and coordination with the Chinese side in multilateral affairs. It is hoped that the upcoming EU-China Summit will provide new impetus for the development of EU-China relations.
