Li Keqiang Meets with Prime Minister Xavier Bettel of Luxembourg

On March 28, 2019, Premier Li Keqiang met in Boao of Hainan Province with Prime Minister Xavier Bettel of Luxembourg, who was in China for the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2019.

Li Keqiang expressed that China-Luxembourg relations have enjoyed healthy and stable development for a long time and the economies of the two countries are highly complementary. We are ready to work with the Luxembourg side to expand two-way opening up, enhance political and economic ties, and deepen practical cooperation, particularly financial cooperation, to achieve common development.

Li Keqiang pointed out that Luxembourg is an important member of the European Union (EU). The Chinese side supports the European integration and the two sides hold similar position on addressing climate change and maintaining multilateralism and free trade. The Chinese side is willing to see a prosperous and stable Europe and hopes the European side can provide an equal environment for companies from the two sides to cooperate and compete with each other.

Xavier Bettel said that Luxembourg and China enjoy friendly relations. The Luxembourg side firmly supports the EU and China in developing comprehensive strategic partnership and jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative, and stands ready to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation with the Chinese side. Both sides support multilateralism, and are ready to jointly create a beautiful future in line with the spirit of inheriting the past and ushering in the future.

After their meeting, Premier Li Keqiang and Prime Minister Xavier Bettel witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding on jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative, and financial cooperation documents between the two countries.
