On the evening of June 23, 2021, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on European Affairs Wu Hongbo attended at invitation the National Day reception held by the Embassy of Luxembourg in China.

Wu Hongbo said in his speech, that China-Luxembourg relations have played a unique role in the relationship between China and the European Union (EU). Since the COVID-19 outbreak, the two countries have supported each other and deepened cooperation in transportation, green finance and other fields. Next year will be the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Luxembourg. He hopes that the two sides will take this opportunity to push bilateral cooperation to a new level.

Wu Hongbo said that in a week, China will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC). The joint endeavors of a retired police officer from Luxembourg, Nico Rene Hansen and First Secretary of the CPC Zhadong Village Branch Xie Wanju to lift local villagers out of poverty has become a fine story in the history of China-Luxembourg friendship. It also shows that the CPC is a political party that seeks rejuvenation for the Chinese nation and happiness for the Chinese people, and aspires to world peace and cooperation. China is willing to work with European countries, including Luxembourg, to insist on the principles of mutual respect, openness and collaboration, and mutually beneficial cooperation, to address global challenges together.

Luxembourg Ambassador to China Hubsch Marc Pierre said that Luxembourg and China enjoy a solid and ever-growing friendship. China is Luxembourg's most robust cooperation partner outside of the EU. In face of the COVID-19 challenges and the need for economic recovery, promoting multilateralism, enhancing international cooperation, and building a greener, digitized and resilient world is in the interest of all peoples. Luxembourg is willing to make joint efforts with China in this regard.

Wu Hongbo and Hubsch Marc Pierre also exchanged views on China-Luxembourg and China-EU relations.
