From June 24 to 25, 2007, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister He Yafei visited the Bahamas. During his visit, He called on Bahamas Governor-General Arthur D. Hanna and held talks with Prime Minister Hubert A. Ingraham and Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Foreign Affairs Brent Symonette.

He conveyed the cordial greetings from the Chinese leaders to the Bahamas side, who expressed thanks and asked He to conveyed their greetings to the Chinese leaders. He said this year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries. The past decade has witnessed satisfactory development of bilateral relations with frequent high-level visits, increasing political trust, fruitful trade cooperation and active people-to-people exchanges. The Bahamas side reiterated their government's adherence to the one-China policy and opposition to "Taiwan independence", pledging to offer firm support to China on Taiwan-related issues. He Yafei appreciated such a position, adding that the Bahamas, an important country in the Caribbean region, has played a positive role in international and regional affairs. The Chinese government attaches great importance to friendly cooperative relations with the Caribbean country and deems it a trustworthy friend and partner, said the Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister, expressing China's willingness to work with the Bahamas to promote further development of bilateral friendly relations.

Agreeing with He's comments on bilateral ties, the Bahamas side expressed delight with the rapid development of such ties since the establishment of diplomatic relations a decade ago. They said the Bahamas is ready to make joint efforts with China to push bilateral relations to a higher level. The Bahamas side reiterated adherence to the one-China policy, expressing admiration for China's enormous achievements in reform and opening up. They also wished China greater prosperity and hoped to see its bigger role in safeguarding world peace, stability and development.
