On January 8, 2015, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a group meeting with Foreign Ministers of Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Bahamas, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Suriname as well as Trinidad and Tobago and representative of Jamaica at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, who were in China for the attendance of the first ministerial meeting of the Forum between China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).

Wang Yi extended welcome to the Foreign Ministers and representative from the Caribbean states that have established diplomatic relationship with China for their attendance at the first ministerial meeting of China-CELAC Forum in China and gratitude to all Caribbean states for their efforts in ensuring the success of the meeting. He expressed that the China-CELAC Forum provides a new platform and paves a new channel for the cooperation between China and Caribbean states besides the current mechanisms for bilateral cooperation. It is hoped that both sides could make joint efforts to ensure the China-CELAC Forum a success, so as to promote the relations between China and Caribbean states as well as between China and the CELAC.

Wang Yi said that the visit paid by President Xi Jinping to Caribbean states in 2013 endowed the relations between China and Caribbean states with new positioning, promoted bilateral relationship to new high and opened up a new situation. Both sides enjoy frequent mutual high-level visits and fruitful cooperation results, and maintain communication and coordination on major global issues including climate change. China is willing to join efforts with all the Caribbean states to promote the bilateral comprehensive cooperative partnership featuring mutual respect, equal treatment, mutual benefits and common development for continuous progress.

The Foreign Ministers and representative from the Caribbean states that have established diplomatic relationship with China expressed gratitude to China for its warm reception and hospitality and stressed that the first ministerial meeting of CELAC-China Forum, which will become a new starting point for CELAC-China overall cooperation, is of great historic significance. The Caribbean states highly appreciate and are sincerely grateful to the Chinese government for its long-term and selfless help to the economic and social development of the Caribbean states. They hope to continue to intensify cooperation with China to achieve mutual benefit and win-win result.
