On June 13, 2011, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao held talks with his Barbados counterpart Freundel Stuart at the Great Hall of the People.

Wen called Barbados a "good friend" and "important trade partner" of China in the Caribbean region. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 34 years ago, bilateral relations have developed steadily with pragmatic cooperation expanding continuously. China appreciates Barbados' adherence to the one-China policy and will strengthen mutual understanding and trust by increasing high-level exchanges, Wen said. "China will enhance coordination with Barbados on major issues such as climate change to safeguard common interests," he said. China will also expand bilateral cooperation in such sectors as economy, trade, infrastructure construction, agriculture, tourism, culture and education based on the principles of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit so as to promote economic development of the two countries and the friendship between both peoples, Wen said. He hoped that Barbados will continue to play a positive role in promoting the friendly relations between China and the Caribbean region.

Labeling China a "reliable partner," Stuart said China has offered strong support for his country's economic and social development. Barbados attaches great importance to relations with China and will stick to the one-China policy, he said, adding his country is ready to bolster exchange and cooperation with China, especially in new energy, education, infrastructure and tourism. Barbados is ready to make positive contributions to pushing forward the friendly cooperative relations between China and the Caribbean region.

Minister of Education Yuan Guiren, MOC International Trade Representative & Vice Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng, Chinese Ambassador to Barbados Wei Qiang and other officials attended the talks.

Following the talks, the two leaders attended the signing ceremony of relevant bilateral cooperation documents.
