In 2021, the comprehensive cooperative partnership of mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit and common development between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago made new headway.
Political mutual trust continued to deepen. In March, President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Keith Rowley talked on the phone, and reached important consensus on bilateral relations, anti-COVID cooperation and other matters. Prime Minister and leader of the People’s National Movement Keith Rowley also sent a congratulatory message to General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping on the 100th anniversary of the CPC. Senior officials of the ruling party of Trinidad and Tobago attended the CPC in Dialogue with World Political Parties High-level Meeting via video link. In December, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi hosted the third Ministers’ Meeting of the China-CELAC Forum, which Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs Amery Browne attended virtually. The two countries maintained close communication and coordination in international affairs.
The two countries carried out productive cooperation against COVID. China donated multiple batches of medical supplies to Trinidad and Tobago. In May, COVID vaccines donated by China arrived in Trinidad and Tobago.
Practical cooperation in various fields yielded fruitful results, and people-to-people exchanges progressed steadily. The Phoenix Park Industrial Estate project was well underway. The first China-Trinidad and Tobago Investment Cooperation Forum was successfully held in Trinidad and Tobago.
