On June 20, 2014, Premier Li Keqiang exchanged congratulatory messages with Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar of Trinidad and Tobago, extending warm congratulations on the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Trinidad and Tobago.

Li Keqiang said in his congratulatory message that since China and Trinidad and Tobago established diplomatic relations 40 years ago, over the recent years in particular, the two countries have carried out fruitful cooperation in such fields as infrastructure construction, economy and trade, and people-to-people and cultural engagement. In February this year when Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar visited China, we had an in-depth exchange of views on topics of common interest including the development of the bilateral relations and reached extensive consensus. I believe that, with the joint efforts of the two sides, practical cooperation between the two countries will achieve greater development at a higher level and in broader fields.

Persad-Bissessar said in her congratulatory message that the time-honored people-to-people and cultural exchanges and active Chinese communities in Trinidad and Tobago have enriched the connotation of the bilateral relations. Last year, President Xi Jinping paid a historic visit to Trinidad and Tobago, and this year I also made an official visit to China, which has laid a good foundation for Trinidad and Tobago and China to deepen the bilateral relations, and strengthen cooperation in fields such as economy and trade, energy, technology and culture in particular. With the Trinidad and Tobago-China relations embarking on a new journey, Trinidad and Tobago will join hands with China to continue to make efforts to benefit the two peoples.

On the same day, Foreign Minister Wang Yi also exchanged congratulatory messages with acting Foreign Minister Roodal Moonilal of Trinidad and Tobago.
