Chinese, Dominican Leaders Exchange Congratulatory Messages on the 5th Anniversary of Diplomatic Ties

On March 23, 2009, Chinese President Hu Jintao and his Dominican counterpart Nicholas Liverpool exchanged congratulatory messages to mark the fifth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Hu, in his message, said the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Dominica opened a new page in the bilateral relationship. With the joint efforts, the dialogue, exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in such fields as politics, economy and trade, culture and education, and health were very effective and have continuously progressed in the past five years. The China-Dominica relations have taken on a sound momentum of development. China appreciates Dominica's adherence to the one-China policy and its active attitude to develop relations with Beijing, Hu said.

China has always proposed that all countries, no matter big or small, rich or poor, strong or weak, are all equal members of the international community, Hu said. He said it is China's consistent policy to develop friendly and cooperative relations with Dominica and Caribbean countries on the basis of the one-China principle. China cherishes its friendship with Dominica and is willing to further expand bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields and continue joint efforts to develop their friendly and cooperative relations, featuring long-term stability, equality and mutual benefit, Hu said.

Liverpool, in his message, said that the two countries' exchanges and cooperation have been fruitful in the fields of politics, economy, trade and culture since the establishment of diplomatic relations. The Dominican government cherishes the friendship with China and would like to work together with the Chinese side to further strengthen and deepen the existing cooperation between the two countries, Liverpool added.

Those who also exchanged congratulatory messages respectively included Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and his Dominican counterpart Roosevelt Skerrit, as well as Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and Vince Henderson, the Dominican foreign affairs, immigration and labor minister.
