On June 17, 2009, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with Grenadian Prime Minister Tillman Thomas at the Great Hall of the People.

During the meeting, Wen said Sino-Grenadian relations had developed smoothly since they resumed four years ago and both sides had conducted fruitful cooperation of mutual benefit. "Facts show a healthy, stable, and developing relationship is in the fundamental interests of the two countries and peoples," said Wen. He expressed willingness to promote bilateral personnel exchanges, build up mutual understanding and trust and consolidate the political foundation of the ties. He said that China is ready to expand pragmatic cooperation on trade, tourism and agriculture with Grenada, vowing to work together to safeguard the rights of developing countries on issues of climate change and sustainable development. Wen also urged both sides to enhance cultural and educational exchanges, as well as human resources training. China will continue to offer assistance within its ability to Grenada's post-hurricane reconstruction and its economic and social development, he added.

Wen pointed out that China attached importance to relations with the Caribbean countries including Grenada from a strategic perspective. China would support and cooperate with all the friendly nations in implementing various cooperation measures already reached, to cope with the challenges and achieve common prosperity, said Wen.

Thomas said Grenada valued relations with China and was committed to enhancing bilateral cooperation. He thanked for China's enormous help and support for Grenada's post-hurricane reconstruction and its economic and social development. He said amid the spreading global financial crisis, Grenada hoped to expand cooperation with China in the areas of economy, agriculture, tourism, education, culture and human resources development, as well as on tackling climate change, so as to push forward bilateral ties.

Thomas also praised China's important role in the Caribbean region, pledging to explore ways of establishing effective mechanisms to attract more Chinese investors and tourists to the Caribbean region, in a bid to push for the friendly cooperative relations between the Caribbean countries and China.

Thomas reaffirmed Grenada would adhere to the one-China policy.

Following the talks, the two attended a signing ceremony of relevant cooperative documents.

Prior to the talks, Premier Wen held a welcoming ceremony for Thomas on the square outside the East Gate of the Great Hall of the People. Vice Chairperson of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party Central Committee Wang Jirong, Vice Foreign Minister Wang Guangya and Chinese Ambassador to Grenada Zhang Wanhai attended the welcoming ceremony.
