Director-General of the Department of African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Wu Peng Attends the Roundtable on Promoting Cooperation on Infrastructure Projects between China and SADC

On August 30, 2022, Director-General of the Department of African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Wu Peng, upon invitation, attended and addressed the roundtable on how to promote cooperation on regional infrastructure projects between China and Southern African Development Community (SADC) under African Union (AU)'s Program Infrastructure Development for Africa (PIDA) via video link.

Wu Peng said that China respects Africa's needs and listens to Africa's voice. China always welcomes more infrastructure cooperation with embracing arms and engages in cooperation with open doors. China will take the implementation of the outcomes of the Eighth Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation as an opportunity to strengthen the synergy of development strategies with African countries including SADC under the nine programs, adhere to scientific planning, innovate development ideas, make the pie of cooperation bigger, and support African countries in constantly enhancing their capacity for sustainable development.

The roundtable, co-hosted by the AU Representative Office in China and Development Reimagined, aims to set up a platform for communication and exchange to publicize the AU's infrastructure plan and promote China-Africa infrastructure cooperation. Ambassador Rahamtalla M. Osman, Permanent Representative of the AU to China, Head of the SADC to China and Ambassador of Malawi to China Allan Joseph Chintedza, CEO of Development Reimagined Hannah Ryder, diplomatic envoys or senior diplomats of more than 20 African countries to China, and representatives from such institutions as the African Development Bank as well as Chinese enterprises and chambers of commerce were present both online and offline.
