On September 9, 2022, Director-General of the Department of African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Wu Peng attended the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Day Reception upon invitation.

Wu Peng noted in his speech that as one of the most dynamic and influential sub-regional organizations in Africa, SADC has played an important role in maintaining regional peace and stability, mounting a united response to COVID-19, and promoting economic recovery in regional countries in recent years. China has always seen Africa as a partner for equal-footed and mutually beneficial cooperation, and is optimistic about its development prospects. China is ready to work with SADC and other African countries to strengthen solidarity and coordination, deepen practical cooperation, and jointly build a China-Africa community with a shared future in the new era.

SADC outgoing rotating chair Malawi’s Ambassador to China Allan Joseph Chintedza said in his speech that SADC is committed to the one-China principle, appreciates China’s long-term contributions to the social and economic development of regional countries, and wishes to strengthen cooperation with China across the board within the framework of jointly building the Belt and Road and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, with a view to achieving common development and meeting various challenges together.
