On September 28, 2022, Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Wu Xi met with new Syrian Ambassador to China Mhd. Hasanein Khaddam at the latter's request. The two sides exchanged views on China-Syria relations, consular cooperation and other issues.

The two sides agreed to further elevate the level of consular cooperation, strengthen personnel exchanges and promote the development of bilateral relations.
