On December 6, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with the press corps "Understanding China" of the Asia Society of the US and answered questions from the journalists regarding China-US relations, the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue and other topics.

Wang Yi stressed that as China and the US share increasingly converging interests, both countries should seek win-win cooperation on the basis of mutual respect. Economic and trade friction should not be politicized. Both sides will only end up being losers in a trade war. China is willing to work with the US to well hold the right direction of China-US relations, expand practical cooperation in various fields, properly handle and manage differences and sensitive issues, and push forward China-US relations for sustained, healthy and stable development so as to bring more and better benefits to the two peoples and people of various countries. Nowadays, all countries in the world share the common destiny. For this reason, China has advocated building a new type of international relations and building a community with a shared future for mankind, which conforms to the progressive trend of times, is in line with the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations and also represents the call of the international community. As the largest developing country and the largest developed country, China and the US have the responsibility to make due contributions to building such a world.

The members of the press corps included experienced journalists from well-known media such as Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), Washington Post, Foreign Affairs and Bloomberg View.
