China and Barbados

The friendly relations between the People's Republic of China and Barbados maintained good momentum of growth in 2013.

The two countries had frequent high-level exchanges. During his visit to Trinidad and Tobago in June, President Xi Jinping had a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister of Barbados Freundel Stuart. In February, Premier Wen Jiabao sent a message of congratulations to Prime Minister Stuart on his re-election. In April, Prime Minister Stuart sent a message of congratulations to Premier Li Keqiang on his election. In June, Minister of Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and Water Resource Management of Barbados David Estwick attended the first China-Latin America and the Caribbean Agricultural Ministers' Forum in China.

Economic and trade cooperation as well as people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries continued to grow. In March,DChina International Trade Representative and Vice Minister of Commerce Zhong Shan visited Barbados. In August, Henan Culture and Arts Troupe staged performances in Barbados, and their performances were warmly received. In September, a team of China Central Television (CCTV) filmed in Barbados a documentary of local culture entitled Glamorous Barbados. In October, Commander of the Barbados Coast Guard Aquinas Joseph Clarke attended the Forum for Senior Defense Officials from Caribbean and South Pacific Countries in China.
