On the evening of August 10, 2009, Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa met in Quito, the capital of Ecuador, with Mr. Sun Zhengcai, Minister of Agriculture and Special Envoy of the Chinese Government, who is here to attend the inauguration ceremony of the Ecuadorian President at invitation.
Sun conveyed the greetings and congratulations from President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao to Correa. Correa thanked the Chinese government for sending its special envoy to attend his inauguration ceremony and asked Sun to convey his greetings and wishes to the Chinese leaders.
Correa spoke highly of the new progress achieved in Ecuador-China relations in recent years, expressing willingness to strengthen bilateral cooperation and further promote the friendly relations between the two countries. He reaffirmed that his country will continue to firmly adhere to the one-China policy.
On August 11, Sun also met with Ecuador's Foreign Minister Fander Falconi and Agricultural Minister Ramon Espinel.
Correa was first elected president of Ecuador in November 2006 and was sworn in in January 2007. He was re-elected as president in April this year.
At the invitation of the government of the Republic of Ecuador, Minister of Agriculture Sun Zhengcai, as Special Envoy of the Chinese Government, attended the inauguration ceremony of the Ecuadorian President held in the National Congress of Ecuador on August 10.
