China and Thailand

China and Thailand established diplomatic relations on July 1, 1975. Since then, the relationship between the two countries has consistently grown and remained stable.

The two countries maintain close high-level exchanges. In January 2024, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited Thailand. In April, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand visited China. In May, Princess Chulabhorn of Thailand visited China. In July, Thai Foreign Minister Maris visited China. In August, Comrade Wang Yi attended the 9th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Thailand, and Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn visited China. In October, Premier Li Qiang met with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn on the sidelines of a series of leaders' meetings on East Asia Cooperation in Vientiane, Laos. In November, President Xi Jinping met with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn on the sidelines of the 31st APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Lima.Prime Minister Paetongtarn attended the 8th Greater Mekong Subregion Summit in Kunming.In February 2025, Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn paid an official visit to China and attended the opening ceremony of the 9th Asian Winter Games.

Cooperation in various sectors continued to proceed forward. The two countries are working together to jointly build the Belt and Road with high quality. China and Thailand have made solid progress in advancing the development concept of China-Laos-Thailand connectivity and accelerated the construction of the China-Thailand railway. Chinese companies are actively participating in the construction of Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), and the Thai-Chinese Rayong Industrial Estate and other key projects are making steady progress. China is Thailand's largest trading partner and a major source of foreign investment. The two countries have continuously deepened cooperation in such fields as economy, trade and investment, law enforcement and security, scientific and technological innovation, people-to-people exchanges and military affairs. A total of 41 pairs of sister cities have been established.

The two countries maintained close collaboration in regional and international cooperation mechanisms such as the United Nations, APEC, 10+1 (ASEAN+China), 10+3 (ASEAN+China, Japan and the ROK), Asia Cooperation Dialogue and Lancang-mekong cooperation.
