Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing Holds Talks with Guinean State Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation

On August 24, 2006, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing held talks with Guinean State Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mamadi Conde in the office building of the Chinese Foreign Ministry. Both sides exchanged views on bilateral ties and issues of common interest.

Li said China-Guinea relations are of special significance in Sino-African ties as Guinea was the first sub-Saharan country to set up diplomatic ties with China. Bilateral relations have witnessed steady and sound growth since the establishment of diplomatic ties 47 years ago and the two countries have treated each other on an equal footing and conducted sincere cooperation, noted Li. He said the Chinese side appreciates Guinea's adherence to the one-China policy in the past years and its support for China's grand cause of reunification. Li said the Chinese government treasures Sino-Guinean traditional friendship and cooperation. China will work with the Guinean government to maintain exchanges of high-level visits, push forward bilateral economic and trade cooperation, and expand cooperation in such fields as education, health, human resources development and international affairs to push for comprehensive and in-depth development of bilateral friendly relations and cooperation, said Li.

Conde said China is a great country and all developing nations are proud of China's achievements. He added the Guinean government and people have always cherished a friendship toward the Chinese government and people and Guinea has always stood by China in international affairs. He noted Guinea is sincerely grateful for China's long-standing support and assistance and will as always adhere to the one-China policy, adding that Guinea will further strengthen friendly cooperation with China. Conde also briefed Li on the situation in his country.

Foreign Minister Conde arrived in Beijing on August 23, kicking off his official visit to China as Li's guest.
