2019-06-23 10:41

On June 23, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Foreign Minister Amadou Ba of Senegal in Beijing.

Wang Yi said that Senegal is an important partner of China in Africa, the African co-chair of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and the first country in West Africa to participate in the cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative. Both sides need to consolidate political mutual trust, deepen the alignment of respective development strategies and strengthen cooperation in a wide range of sectors. The Chinese side is willing to, based on respecting Senegal's willingness, carry out third-party cooperation in Senegal with other international partners.

Wang Yi said that as China values Africa, respects Africa and supports Africa, China is a reliable and long-term cooperative partner of Africa. The fruits of China-Africa cooperation can be seen by all and have been widely received by the African people and therefore must not be interfered and discredited. China-Africa cooperation is also open to the world. Other international cooperative partners are welcome to actively participate in the cooperation with Africa, so as to complement strengths and forge synergy with the Chinese side.

Amadou Ba warmly congratulated on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. He expressed admiration to China's economic and social development, saying that China's development has promoted the growth of world economy and brought hope to African people. Senegal firmly supports the one-China principle and appreciates China's support for developing countries. China's cooperation with Africa is a model of international cooperation. Debt problems some African countries face are due to historical issues, and not related to China. China's investment in Africa's infrastructure and other sectors these years proves to be practical and efficient, which has largely helped Africa's development and increased the capability of independent development of African countries. The economic benefits generated in these projects in turn strengthen their capability to pay debts. In this sense, Africa is in urgent need for China's support and help.

During the talks, Amadou Ba warmly congratulated Chinese candidate Mr. Qu Dongyu for being elected as Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. Wang Yi thanked for his congratulation.

After the talks, the two sides witnessed the signing of multiple bilateral cooperation agreements.
