On June 24, 2019, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee Yang Jiechi held a group meeting with the heads of the African delegations attending the Coordinators' Meeting on the Implementation of the Follow-up Actions of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing.

Yang Jiechi said that the FOCAC Beijing Summit held last September was a great success, sustaining and leveraging the good momentum created by the Summit. With the joint efforts of the two sides, the implementation of the follow-up actions of the summit has a good start. Entering the new era, China-Africa relations are gaining stronger momentum, growing on a more solid political foundation, defined by more wide-ranging cooperation and acquiring greater relevance. At present, the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between China and Africa has been lifted to an unprecedented level. The fruitful China-Africa cooperation has become a pacesetter for international cooperation with Africa and for South-South cooperation. Together, we are upholding multilateralism and the free trade system, defending the international system with the United Nations at its core, and promoting reforms to make the global governance system more just and equitable, thus contributing positive energy to world peace and development.

Yang Jiechi pointed out that in its relationship and cooperation with Africa, China upholds the principle of sincerity, real results, amity and good faith and that of pursuing the greater good and shared interests. In implementing the outcomes of the FOCAC Beijing Summit and advancing the Belt and Road cooperation, we can seek greater mutual benefits, enhance solidarity and coordination, increase exchanges and mutual learning, continue to work closely on major regional and international issues and build an even stronger China-Africa community with a shared future.

Foreign Minister Amadou Ba of Senegal, the co-chair of the African side of the forum, said that Africa-China relations are equal, friendly, mutually beneficial and win-win relations, and Africa-China cooperation has yielded fruitful results. The appeal of the FOCAC is practical and efficient, which accords with the fundamental interests of the African and Chinese people. The African side is willing to work together with the Chinese side to well implement the follow-up actions of the Beijing Summit and build a closer community with a shared future for China and Africa. Africa and China share similar positions on many major international issues, and this coordinators' meeting will also send out a concerted voice of Africa and China to work together and uphold multilateralism.
