On October 23, 2023, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi met with Senegalese President's Chief Foreign Affairs Adviser Oumar Demba Ba, who is in Beijing to attend the senior officials meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

Wang Yi said, the FOCAC has become the most important platform for China-Africa solidarity and mutual assistance. It has enhanced political mutual trust, carried forward traditional friendship, promoted respective development and revitalization, and set a good example for South-South cooperation. As the co-chairs of the FOCAC, China and Senegal have eliminated the interference caused by COVID-19, continuously deepened China-Africa friendship and cooperation, and contributed to mutual assistance and solidarity between China and Africa in the fight against COVID-19. China is ready to work with Senegal to make good preparations for the new conference of the FOCAC next year and inject fresh impetus into China-Africa cooperation.

Wang Yi said, under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Macky Sall, China and Senegal have understood and supported each other, established firm mutual trust, deepened mutually beneficial cooperation, and constantly lift the China-Senegal comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to new levels. China appreciates Senegal's support for China's legitimate propositions on issues involving China's core interests and major concerns. China also firmly supports Senegal in safeguarding its independence, sovereignty and national dignity and following a development path suited to its own national conditions, and supports Senegal in playing a more important role in international and African affairs.

Oumar Demba Ba said, Senegal-China cooperation in various fields has yielded fruitful results, contributing to rapid changes in Senegal's national development. He thanked China for its firm support for Africa's development and upgrading of its international status. The FOCAC has become an important platform for advancing Africa-China cooperation and promoting greater democracy in international relations. Senegal will, as always, firmly pursue the one-China principle, support China in safeguarding its core interests, and support and make all-out efforts to promote Africa-China cooperation. Oumar Demba Ba extended congratulations on the success of the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF), saying that President Xi Jinping's important speech clarified the way forward for international cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative, and Senegal will continue to actively participate in it.

Wang Yi said, China will work with all parties to implement the outcomes of the BRF and take the opportunity of ushering Belt and Road cooperation to a new stage of high-quality development to advance global modernization together and achieve common development and prosperity.
