On May 24, 2023, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Eurasian Affairs Li Hui held talks in Berlin with State Secretary of the German Foreign Ministry Andreas Michaelis. The two sides exchanged views on the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis and China-Germany relations, among others.

Li Hui said that China's position on the Ukraine issue is consistent and clear, and its core stance is to promote peace talks and political settlement. As President Xi Jinping pointed out, there is no panacea for defusing the crisis. It requires all parties to do their share and create favorable conditions for the resumption of peace talks through a buildup of mutual trust. China supports European countries in starting from the root causes of the crisis, looking for a solution that addresses both the symptoms and the root causes, and working for lasting peace and stability on the European continent. China will continue to maintain close communication with Germany in this regard to follow through on the important common understandings reached between leaders of the two countries, and provide more stability and positive energy to the world.

Michaelis said that the German side spoke highly of China's positive efforts to ease the Ukraine crisis. It is very useful and necessary for Germany and China to strengthen dialogue on a series of major international and regional issues, including the Ukraine issue. Germany is ready to work with China to enhance communication and exchanges at all levels and work for a peaceful solution to the crisis.
