On April 6, 2023, Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Zhai Jun had a phone call with Swiss Special Envoy for Middle East and North Africa Wolfgang Amadeus Brülhart at the latter’s request. The two sides exchanged views on the Palestinian question, the situation in Yemen, and other issues of mutual interest and concern.

Zhai Jun expounded on China's principled positions and work on such regional hot-spot issues as the Palestinian question and the situation in Yemen, and emphasized that the Palestinian question should be properly resolved on the basis of the two-state solution, and peace and stability in Yemen should be realized through dialogue and consultation. China will continue to play a constructive role in realizing peace and stability in the Middle East.

Wolfgang Amadeus Brülhart spoke highly of the positive role of the Saudi-Iran talks in Beijing in easing regional tensions, appreciated China's contributions to peace and stability in the Middle East, and expressed his readiness to strengthen communication with China on promoting deescalation of the current Palestine-Israel tensions and political settlement of the Yemen issue.
