Zeng Qinghong Meets with Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister

Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong met in the Great Hall of the People with Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer on November 18, 2004.

Zeng Qinghong said that since China established diplomatic ties with Antigua and Barbuda, the friendly cooperative relations between the two countries have been developing smoothly, people exchanges continuing, mutual understanding and friendship deepening and economic and technological cooperation achieving fruitful results. The two countries support and cooperate with each other in international affairs. The Chinese government pays high attention to developing relations with Antigua and Barbuda, appreciates the Antigua and Barbuda government's adherence to the one-China policy and will work with Antigua and Barbuda to enhance mutual trust, deepen friendship, keep promoting cooperation in trade, culture, tourism and human resources development and push the friendly and cooperative relations to an even higher level.

Zeng Qinghong noted that the Chinese government attaches great importance to developing friendly relations with the Caribbean and Latin American countries. Initiated by China, the first ministerial meeting of the "China-Caribbean Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum" will be held in Jamaica next February. China is ready to work with all parties to make the meeting a success, so as to promote and strengthen the economic and trade cooperation between Caribbean countries including Antigua and Barbuda and China.

Spencer said that over the 21 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties between Antigua and Barbuda and China the bilateral political relations have been strengthened constantly and economic and trade cooperation has made great achievements. The Antigua and Barbuda government will continue to follow the one-China policy, highly compliments China's contributions to maintaining world peace and security and stands ready to work with China to push forward and enhance the economic and trade cooperation between the Caribbean countries and China.
