On November 5, 2018, Director-General of the Department of Latin American and Caribbean Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Zhao Bentang met with a visiting media delegation of Panama. Zhao Bentang briefed the delegation on the process of establishing diplomatic relations between China and Panama and the development of bilateral relations since then. He also pointed out that China and Panama established diplomatic relations on the foundation of the one-China principle without any economic premise, which opens up broad prospects for friendly exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries. China-Panama relations, which do not target any third party, focus on promoting national development and benefiting the two peoples. Zhao Bentang also answered questions from journalists on China-Panama practical cooperation, China-Latin America relations and other topics of their concern.

Speaking highly of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Panama and China and fruits delivered from bilateral relations, journalists expressed that they have a more in-depth and comprehensive understanding on the development of relations between Panama and China through this communication, and they will deliver the detailed and accurate information to the Panamanian people to boost greater development of Panama-China relations.
