On September 29, 2022, Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Wu Xi met with Ambassador of New Zealand to China Clare Fearnley, and had an exchange of views on China-New Zealand relations and consular cooperation, among others.

The two sides agreed to further strengthen consular cooperation, facilitate personnel exchanges on the basis of effective prevention and control of COVID-19, and promote the development of bilateral relations and practical cooperation in various fields.
