On January 15, Ambassador Chu Maoming attended the Welcome & Farewell Ceremony for the 6th and 7th Batches of the China Medical Teams, as well as the Handover Ceremony for medical supplies donated by the People’s Republic of China. The event was graced by the presence of several distinguished Dominican officials, including Hon. Dr. Irving McIntyre, Representative of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and Minister of Finance, Economic Development, Climate Resilience, and Social Security; Hon. Cassanni Laville, Minister for Health, Wellness, and Social Services; Hon. Jullan Defoe, Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Blue and Green Economy; Permanent Secretaries from the Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Social Services, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Business, Trade and Energy; CEO of the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital. Also in attendance were representatives from the Guangdong Health Commission, members of the 6th and 7th Batches of the China Medical Teams, Mr. Sun Xinhua, Chief of Economic and Commercial Affairs at the Chinese Embassy, and other delegates, totaling more than 40 participants.
Ambassador Chu expressed his gratitude to the Dominican Ministry of Health for its steadfast support for the China Medical Team’s work. He commended the 6th batch of the China Medical Team for their remarkable achievements and selfless dedication and warmly welcomed the 7th batch, encouraging them to uphold the team’s fine tradition of striving for the health and well-being of the Dominican people. The Ambassador highlighted that the donation of medical supplies exemplifies China’s firm commitment to strengthening Dominica’s healthcare system and enhancing the health and well-being of its people. He reaffirmed China’s willingness to continue advancing China-Dominica cooperation in the medical and healthcare fields, aiming to elevate the partnership to new heights and bring greater benefits to the people of both nations.
Minister Laville fondly recalled and sincerely appreciated the invaluable contributions of the China Medical Teams in advancing Dominica’s medical technology and capabilities. He also extended heartfelt gratitude to the Chinese government for its generous donation of medical supplies to Dominica. Looking ahead, Minister Laville expressed optimism about further broadening the scope of China-Dominica cooperation in the medical and health sectors to continually enhance the quality of healthcare services in Dominica.
