2018-04-02 10:09

From April 1 to 2, 2018 local time, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong, President Tran Dai Quang and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc of Vietnam respectively met with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Hanoi.

Nguyen Phu Trong warmly congratulated China on its successful convening of the Two Sessions. He expressed that Vietnam welcomes a growing and stronger China which will make significant contributions to world peace and stability. As Vietnam and China are friendly neighboring countries and are both socialist countries, the two countries have every reason to work in unity and help each other. At present, Vietnam-China relations have maintained a positive development momentum. Vietnam is willing to speed up the alignment between the "Belt and Road" and "Two Corridors and One Economic Circle", and push forward bilateral practical cooperation. The two sides should properly handle the maritime issues on the basis of the comradely and brotherly spirit, so as not to affect the overall situation of bilateral relations.

Tran Dai Quang expressed that General Secretary Xi Jinping's successful visit to Vietnam last year has vigorously promoted the political mutual trust and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries. Vietnam-China relations have become a highlight amid the current volatile and complicated international situation. Vietnam is willing to work with China to implement the consensus reached by the high-level leaders of the two parties, making the traditional friendship between Vietnam and China yield more results.

Nguyen Xuan Phuc noted that Vietnam places Vietnam-China relations as a priority in its foreign policy. It is hoped that the traditional friendship between Vietnam and China will be constantly strengthened.

Wang Yi expressed that General Secretary Xi Jinping paid a historic visit to Vietnam last year after the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, which promoted an active development momentum of China-Vietnam relations. I was sent to visit Vietnam right after the establishment of the new Chinese government, showing that China will continue putting China-Vietnam relations in an important position in China's overall diplomacy. The two sides should further implement the important results of General Secretary Xi Jinping's visit to Vietnam, transform the important high-level political consensus between the two parties and the two countries into actions which will reinforce China-Vietnam comprehensive strategic cooperation. We should seize the opportunity and push forward the alignment between the "Belt and Road" and "Two Corridors and One Economic Circle", and strive to realize the double upgrade of scale and quality for practical cooperation. Both sides should adopt a proper and prudent approach to handle sensitive issues such as maritime issues, constantly improve and strengthen the public opinion foundation, and make sure that China-Vietnam relations are always developing in the right direction.

Wang Yi also held talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, and they jointly met the press.
