On December 6, 2021, Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Liu Jinsong met with Bruneian Ambassador to China Pehin Dato Rahmani. Both sides exchanged views on China-Brunei relations and China-ASEAN cooperation, among other issues.

Speaking in glowing terms of the friendship between Brunei and China, Rahmani said that during my recent trip to Nanjing, I attended the event in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Brunei and China and the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Bandar Seri Begawan-Nanjing Sister City Relationship to recall the friendship between the two countries, and also visited the Tomb of the King of Boni to see with my own eyes how the Chinese side protects the historical remain symbolizing Brunei-China friendship with great care. I was deeply impressed by the long-lived friendly exchanges between Brunei and China. Not long ago, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and President Xi Jinping co-chaired the Special Summit to Commemorate the 30th Anniversary of China-ASEAN Dialogue Relations, which achieved full success. The Bruneian side is willing to continuously play its role and work with the Chinese side to implement the outcomes of the commemorative summit and keep deepening cooperation between the two countries and between ASEAN and China in various fields.

Liu Jinsong said, Nanjing has witnessed the long history of exchanges between China and Brunei. As the Bruneian proverb "as close as ink and paper" goes, the two countries enjoy inseparable friendship and complementary cooperation. In this year which marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brunei and of dialogue relations between China and ASEAN, the two sides have achieved new fruitful results in cooperation and made another milestone by jointly elevating the China-ASEAN relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership. China appreciates the important contributions made by Brunei during its rotating chairmanship of ASEAN and is willing to work with Brunei to continuously push for greater development of China-Brunei strategic cooperative partnership and China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership under the guidance of the consensus reached by the leaders.

Liu Jinsong also delivered in person and introduced the white paper titled "China: Democracy That Works" released by the State Council Information Office on December 4 to Ambassador Rahmani.
