Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Jianghao Meets with Diplomatic Envoys of ASEAN Countries to China

On February 23, 2022, Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Jianghao held a collective meeting with diplomatic envoys of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries to China. Both sides exchanged views on China-ASEAN relations.

Wu Jianghao said, last November, President Xi Jinping and leaders of ASEAN countries jointly attended the Special Summit to Commemorate the 30th Anniversary of China-ASEAN Dialogue Relations and announced the establishment of China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership, opening a new chapter in the history of bilateral relations. President Xi Jinping's proposal to build a peaceful, safe and secure, prosperous, beautiful and amicable home together has charted the course and drawn up a blueprint for developing China-ASEAN relations. China is ready to step up communication with ASEAN, work out an action plan on implementing the comprehensive strategic partnership on the basis of building a peaceful, safe and secure, prosperous, beautiful and amicable home together, so as to demonstrate the high-level, strategic, practical and forward-looking nature of the new positioning of bilateral relations.

The two sides should work together to give full play to the strategic guiding role of head-of-state diplomacy, chart the course for bilateral relations, uphold true multilateralism, resolutely respond to external interference and jointly safeguard regional peace and stability. China firmly supports ASEAN's central role in regional cooperation, and stands ready to work with ASEAN to expand and strengthen the ASEAN-led regional cooperation framework. The two sides should work together to promote lasting peace and stability in the region, and stay committed to fighting COVID-19 in solidarity and deepening cooperation in public health, counter-terrorism, cyber security, combating transnational crimes, and other non-traditional security fields. We should work together to ensure the success of events marking the 20th anniversary of the Signing of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea, speed up the consultations on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea, and properly handle disputes in the South China Sea. The two sides should work together to achieve regional development and prosperity. Efforts should be made to launch the Version 3.0 China-ASEAN Free Trade Area at an early date, implement the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership with high standards, and jointly maintain financial stability in the region. Efforts should be made to strengthen cooperation in scientific and technological innovation, digital economy and other fields to promote industrial transformation and upgrade. Efforts should be made to promote mutually beneficial cooperation between the Belt and Road Initiative and the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific in key areas. Both sides should work together for sustainable development. Efforts should be made to foster greater synergy between the Global Development Initiative and ASEAN's Community building and increase their positive effects. Efforts should be made to deepen cooperation in ecological environment protection, energy transition, blue economy, climate change, and other fields to promote harmony between man and Nature. The two sides should also work together to strengthen people-to-people ties. Efforts should be made to strengthen cooperation in sports, education, tourism and other fields, develop flagship programs for people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and continuously deepen people-to-people and cultural affinity.

The diplomatic envoys of ASEAN countries spoke highly of the successful opening of the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, saying that it fully demonstrated the immense charm of modern China and Beijing, strengthened solidarity among countries, enhanced friendship among peoples, and made unique contributions to promoting world peace and development. President Xi Jinping's proposal to build a peaceful, safe and secure, prosperous, beautiful and amicable home together provides important guidance for advancing the ASEAN-China comprehensive strategic partnership. ASEAN is ready to work with China to fully implement the important consensus reached at the Summit, deepen cooperation in fields such as pandemic response, economy and trade, digital economy, green economy and people-to-people and cultural exchanges, elevate bilateral relations to a higher level, and make greater contributions to regional peace, stability, development and prosperity.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
