On June 17, 2017, Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Syrian Issue Xie Xiaoyan visited Syria, during which he met respectively with Political and Media Advisor to the Syrian President Bouthaina Shaaban, Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal al-Mekdad and Head of the Syrian Planning and International Cooperation Commission Imad Sabuni, exchanging in-depth views on bilateral relations and international and regional issues of common concern. H.E. Qi Qianjin, Chinese Ambassador to Syria, accompanied Xie Xiaoyan and attended above events.

During the visit, Xie Xiaoyan held a briefing for Chinese media in Syria, introducing his visit in Syria and the work China has done to promote the political settlement of the Syrian issue.
