On April 6, 2023, Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Zhai Jun had a phone call with Norway's Special Representative to the Middle East Peace Process Hilde Haraldstad at the latter’s request. The two sides mainly exchanged views on the Palestinian question.

Zhai Jun expressed concern over the escalation of the current Palestine-Israel tensions, and urged all relevant parties, Israel in particular, to stay calm and exercise restraint to prevent further escalation of the situation. The international community should have a greater sense of urgency, and take substantive measures to promote the implementation of the two-state solution, to promote a proper settlement of the Palestinian question at an early date.

Hilde Haraldstad congratulated China on hosting the foreign ministers’ meeting between Saudi Arabia and Iran in Beijing, noting that this would exert positive impact on the settlement of the Palestinian question and other hot-spot issues in the Middle East. Norway is ready to strengthen communication with China on easing Palestine-Israel tensions and resolving the Palestinian question on the basis of the two-state solution.
