On May 29, 2023, the opening ceremony of the Consulate General of the Dominican Republic in Shanghai was held. Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Wu Xi, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government Zhang Xiong, Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to China Briunny Garabito Segura, and Consul General of the Dominican Republic in Shanghai Victor Nicolas attended the ceremony.

On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wu Xi extended congratulations on the opening of the Consulate General of the Dominican Republic in Shanghai, and said that under the dynamic leadership of President Xi Jinping, the Chinese people are advancing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization, and promoting the building of a human community with a shared future, which will bring new opportunities to the Dominican Republic and other countries. Wu Xi also expressed her belief that the establishment of the Consulate General will further enrich the relations between the two countries.

Zhang Xiong said that the opening of the Consulate General marks a new historical phase in the friendly relations between Shanghai and the Dominican Republic and Shanghai is ready to join hands with the Dominican Republic to promote exchanges and cooperation on all fronts and in various fields.

Ambassador Briunny Garabito Segura thanked the Chinese side for providing the Dominican Republic with strong support in opening the Consulate General, and said that the Dominican Republic is ready to firmly grow the bilateral relations and expressed his belief that the Consulate General will work for more outcomes of the bilateral ties.
